Sr. Commissioning Engineer
At TechSite, we are committed to keeping our customers’ mission-critical facilities running smoothly, ensuring you can stay connected and operate with confidence. We expertly plan, design, build, test, operate, and maintain these essential spaces, aiming to maximize reliability and efficiency with speed, expertise, and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Commissioning Engineer to join our growing team and lead commissioning efforts on complex projects, primarily focused on data centers and other mission-critical environments.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you’ll play a leadership role in ensuring that critical systems are installed, tested, and performing to meet or exceed client requirements. You will oversee commissioning teams, manage schedules, and act as the key client-facing expert on all commissioning-related activities for electrical systems.
Your Responsibilities:
- Lead commissioning projects for electrical systems including medium and low voltage distribution, emergency power systems (generators, UPS, switchgear), and associated controls.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders, contractors, and client teams to ensure project deliverables are met on time and within scope.
- Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior commissioning engineers and specialists.
- Develop commissioning plans, procedures, and test scripts, and ensure they are properly implemented on-site.
- Execute and supervise functional performance testing, witness equipment startups, and validate control system operations.
- Manage project schedules and resource allocation for commissioning activities.
- Identify and document issues in the commissioning issues log; drive resolution through to completion.
- Ensure compliance with client safety protocols and commissioning standards.
- Manage preparation of commissioning reports and deliverables, summarizing project status, testing outcomes, and lessons learned.
- Support the development of commissioning proposals and participate in business development efforts when needed.
What You’ll Bring:
- Expertise in commissioning and troubleshooting electrical systems within mission-critical facilities, particularly data centers or similar environments.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, backup power infrastructure, and electrical control systems.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues.
- Excellent critical thinking and situational awareness; able to assess risk, prioritize actions, and guide teams toward effective solutions.
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills; capable of setting direction, coaching others, and engaging with clients professionally.
- Confidence interpreting electrical drawings and schematics (AutoCAD proficiency is a plus, but not required).
- Strong organizational and time management skills – comfortable managing multiple projects and shifting priorities.
- Ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams on fast-paced construction and commissioning projects.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to present technical information to clients and stakeholders.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated experience with commissioning reports, documentation, and issue-tracking systems.
- Willingness to work on-site at client facilities (typically between 6 AM – 4 PM) with flexibility for variable schedules as project demands dictate.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience commissioning or engineering mission-critical electrical systems.
- LEED AP, CxA, BCxP or comparable commissioning certification is advantageous.
- Experience working on data center projects is highly preferred.
